Subscribers (or short terms exceeding three months, say-smrr or five months can pay quar terly postage for L'm -ict unl term of their subscrip tion that is, for n,i turtor and a think. one Scientific Observations on the Beat. , Professor Loomis, of Yale College, makes on the 17th inst, the following interesting observations upon the weather; " This afternoon, at 2 flfclock, my ther mometer, suspended in the shade upon the north side of the New Haven Hotel, indi cated 102 degrees, being the highest tem perature known to have been observed in New Haven since 1778, a period of 89 years. The highest temperature known to have been observed in New Haven since 1778, a period of 89 years. The highest temperature recorded before the present sent season was 102 degrees, viz: June 24, 1864. Previous to this the thermome ter had been twice observed at 101 degrees, i vis : June 24, 1864. Previous to this the thermometer had been twie" observed at 101 degrees, viz : in 1798; arid there have been three other cases in which the ther mometer has risen to 100 degrees, viz : in 1781, 1800 and 1845, making in all seven known instances in which s thermometer, fairly exposed in the shade, has risen to 100 degrees and upwards. The period just passed has been quite as remarkable for the long continuance of extreme heat as for its intensity. Within a period of eleven days the thermometer has risen five times to 95 degrees and up wards. Since 1778 there has been only one other instance in which the thermome ter has risen to this height five times dur ing the same summer, viz : in 1845, and 4hpse cases wfcYo spread over an interval f tbirty-si days. Dining the same pe riod there have been but two other cases in which the thermometer has risen to 95 jbgiesm as niwny as four times during the aame summer, viz ; in 178Q and 1798.
